An Introduction to Hemophilia

An Introduction to Hemophilia

Hello, everyone! I’m very proud to announce this project, and bring you its first installment. This is my first illustrated poem in a series that will be released twice a week through HF Healthcare’s website. In total, there will be at least 6 poems, and they will all address a different topics regarding life with hemophilia. This is my first illustrated poem in a series that will be released twice a week through HF Healthcare’s website. There will be a different cast of characters, a unique poem, and new illustration with every post. This has been a project I’ve wanted to work on for years, and HF Healthcare is finally giving me the opportunity and resources to complete it. It’s my hope that these poems will be understandable, easily sharable, and fun.

This first poem is one that I thought would be a good introduction to the project, as it is quite literally an introduction to hemophilia. When I was a young patient, one thing that helped me with treatment was understanding exactly what was going on when I got my factor. Every child has a fear of needles, and the process of getting factor can be a very scary one. But in my experience, understanding that factor was something my blood needed, made it easier to accept the fact that I was going to get a shot. When it clicked in my brain that factor was a puzzle piece that I was missing, it helped me visualize and comprehend what was happening in my body, and that was a very comforting feeling. I hope that this poem will help children understand what their hemophilia is, making it easier to understand why they need treatment. When starting an education, you begin with the basics, and these are the basics! Please share this poem with a young hemophiliac in your life, or anyone you think could benefit from it.

Thank you all for checking it out, and check back Friday for a new poem and illustration!
